Fashion rules for all of the plus size humans in the world:
Don’t wear horizontal stripes.
Don’t show your arms.
Don’t wear crop tops.
Don’t wear tight shirts.
Don’t you dare wear bold patterns.
Don’t wear thick and bulky clothing.
Do try to cover up as much as humanly possible.
Dear whoever made up these rules,
You must be out of your mind.
I’m done staining department store dressing rooms with my tears because nothing fits according to any of your rules.
I’m so fed up with finding pieces of clothing I love and then being too scared to wear them out “in case I get judged”.
I have let so many amazing fashion finds go in the past because they were “too short” or “too tight’, and they would reveal my ghastly body to the world.
I’m over it.
I’m also 23 years old, and I’ve been dealing with being overweight for over 15 of those years. I’ve fought my battles long and hard, and at this moment I feel absolutely liberated. My body is my temple, and it’s incredible.
If you’re younger, feeling hopeless, or just haven’t come to the incredible realization that you too can wear whatever the frack you want – well, girl (or dude) I am here for you!
The crop top.
What’s that, a jiggly belly? Stretch marks?! DEAR LORD HELP US ALL. Truth be told, I love crop tops. See, little Srna? It’s not all so gloomy. Crop tops allow me to be the trouble maker that I am (hay hay t-shirt reference). No but seriously, get over yourself and let me parade my belly and tiger stripes around like the badass that I am.
Now listen, your girl is far from flat-chested – but why should that stop me from wearing horizontal stripes? I’M GOING TO WEAR ALL THE STRIPES – ENJOY!
Bold patterns? Bare arms?
C-C-C-COMBOOOOOO. How cute is this shirt though?
Bulky sweaters? Thick materials?
Excuse me while I stay warm during winter in 700 layers of sweaters. Bye Felicia!
Bottom line is, I’m tired of feeling restricted – and this is the year that I take back control of my body. My body is absolutely fantastic, can you see all that it can do? It allows me to live my life to the fullest each and every day, and I’m not about to put a brown potato sack over it just so that it doesn’t offend society.
I urge you to wear what you love. The more you consciously step out of your comfort zone, the more comfortable you’ll become with your awesome bod. Pinky promise! So next time you put on an amazing outfit and feel tempted to change out of it at the last minute, grab your phone, your keys, and bolt right out the door. Enjoy your day or your evening, all while looking absolutely fantastic.
